Travis Scott isn’t the only part of The Odyssey that director Christopher Nolan has defended recently.
The warriors’ armor was another point of contention among critics.
Even on social media, some people joked that this armor is less similar to ancient Greece and more similar to the Batsuit.
Responding to them, Nolan told Time magazine, “There are Mycenaean daggers that are black bronze.”
He further states that the designs of the black armor are rooted in a historical principle.
“The theory is that they could possibly blacken the bronze in those days.”
“You take bronze, add more gold and silver to it, and then use sulfur.”
Nolan cited costume designer Ellen Mirojnik for using rich materials for the King’s armor.
“With Agamemnon, our costume designer Ellen (Miroznik) is trying to convey how towering he is above everyone else.”
“You do this through materials that will be very expensive,” he adds.
Then, there are questions about the casting of Travis Scott.
Oppenheimer the director says he needed a rapper to tell the story because spoken word poetry was common at the time.
And the filmmaker draws parallels to this genre with rap.
He added, “I cast her because I wanted to point to the idea that this story is presented as spoken word poetry, which is similar to rap.”
