Our fight is not against flesh and blood but against hostile spiritual forces. These forces are organized but invisible, truly a demonic enemy. Led by Satan, these evil forces are always plotting against the Lord and His kingdom, trying to overthrow God’s rule over our lives and in this world.
So what are our weapons in this war? They form the armor of God, as Paul described it in our lesson today. Put on the belt of truth. The beginning of evil is to accept a lie. Followers of Christ who know and respect the truth are uniquely positioned to prevail against the deceitful spiritual powers of evil.
Put on the armor of righteousness. To know and do what is right is to live with integrity. It takes courage to do what is right, even if others say it doesn’t matter.
Be willing to share the gospel of peace. The forces of evil have already been defeated through the finished work of Jesus. This is good news that can help turn enemies into allies.
Carry the shield of faith. Faith is trust and confidence in the living God and His promises, even though we cannot see Him. Although it may seem that evil is winning, it has already been defeated by Christ, and we will prevail in Him.
Pray and obey God’s Word. God hears all our prayers, and He is pleased to give us the perfect life that He has promised in His Word, which is the sword of the Spirit. God’s word is the complete and final truth.
