Apple’s first foldable iPhone is coming this fall, and rumors say it will be called the iPhone Ultra. Here are six features to expect from Apple’s new high-end iPhone Ultra.
Design: Titanium, book-style fold with crease-free display

As Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Ultra will have a very unique design for an iPhone.
Unlike most foldables, the iPhone Ultra will be wider than it is tall when unfolded. It will have a book-style fold, with an outer display that looks smaller and wider than every other iPhone screen, and an inner display that resembles the iPad Mini in shape and size.
Unlike previous foldables, the internal display of the iPhone Ultra is expected to have a crease-free design – which is a huge breakthrough for the form factor.
The iPhone Ultra will take some design cues from the iPhone Air. It will have a titanium border, be extremely thin when opened and when folded it will be like two iPhone Airs put together – but thinner.
Lastly, rumors say that only black and white color options will be offered.
Display: Unique shape and orientation

The iPhone Ultra will have two displays: one on the outside, and one that’s visible when you open it. The dimensions of rumor are:
- External Display: 5.3 to 5.5 inches
- Internal Display: 7.6 to 7.8 inches
The external screen will be somewhat similar in size to the iPhone mini, but with a wider aspect ratio.
The internal screen can come very close to that of the iPad Mini in the hand.
Cameras: Two rear lenses, plus two front-facing

The iPhone Ultra will have two rear cameras: 48MP main and 48MP ultra-wide.
This means users who opt for the Ultra instead of the Pro model will miss out on the telephoto camera and its increased zoom capabilities.
Since the iPhone Ultra has two displays, it will also come with two front-facing cameras: one for each display.
Not much is known about these cameras, but Apple will likely use the same 18MP center stage camera that was launched with the iPhone 17 last year. A hole-punch design is expected.
Software: iOS 27 Multitasking Features

iOS 27 is expected to bring new iPhone software features that are exclusive to the iPhone Ultra.
Per Mark Gurman bloombergThere are two main upgrades coming:
- Side-by-Side Apps for Multitasking
- iPad-like app layout
Gurman says the device won’t support the full windowing features of iPadOS 26, or run iPadOS at all when unfolded. But it looks like iOS 27 will still take many cues from the iPad’s software.
Apple Silicon: A20 Pro chip, C2 cellular modem

The iPhone Ultra will come with a new A20 Pro chip and C2 cellular modem, both of which are also expected to come with the iPhone 18 Pro.
The A20 Pro is rumored to be a bigger upgrade than usual due to the new 2-nanometer process and the use of a WMCM (wafer-level multi-chip module) to further improve efficiency.
The new chip will pack the same 12GB RAM as the A19 Pro. But it will reportedly pack the faster LPDDR5 for better performance.
The C2 is Apple’s next generation in-house cellular modem. It will replace Qualcomm’s 5G modem with an Apple-designed solution that comes with a number of new benefits.
touch id

It may seem strange for a model called ‘Ultra’, but Apple’s foldable iPhone won’t offer Face ID for authentication. Instead, Apple is bringing back Touch ID and integrating it into the power button.
Touch ID on the iPhone Ultra will be implemented similarly to what’s offered on the iPad Air and iPad Mini.
Due to the device’s thinness, Apple reportedly couldn’t make the required Face ID components small enough to fit two separate modules (one for each screen) into the iPhone Ultra. But perhaps a future model will change this.
iPhone Ultra Price and Completion
iPhone Ultra price rumors are everywhere. Most analysts expect the starting price to be around $1,999 for the 256GB model. However, some expect a lower starting price while others claim it will be higher.
One thing seems certain though: this will be the most expensive iPhone ever. By essentially combining the iPhone and iPad into a single device, Apple clearly hopes the price will be reasonable.
