- Sony’s Xperia 1 VIII comes with a new AI-powered camera feature that offers suggestions for more expressive photos.
- The company has shared comparative shots taken before and after using the feature.
- People are making fun of Sony’s marketing because the AI-assisted examples look more grainy and overexposed than the original shots.
After all the leaks and rumors, Sony finally launched the Xperia 1 VIII earlier this week. Not only did the flagship phone receive a major redesign, but Sony also fitted a new telephoto sensor that’s almost four times larger than before. But Product page of Xperia 1 VIIIThere is a section that promotes a new feature called AI Camera Assistant. As Sony says, the tool “suggests various expressive options with different adjustments to create memorable photos.” While it seems like this could be a useful feature, the samples Sony chose to use as examples serve more as an argument against the feature.

The images above are side-by-side comparisons that Sony shared, including the original photo and one of the four suggestions offered by the AI camera assistant. All three AI suggestions look significantly worse than the original, appearing washed out and overexposed. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take long for people to start making fun of Sony’s marketing.
