Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has praised Iran’s “courageous resistance” against the United States and Israel, saying the country is now better prepared to face external threats.
In a statement issued on National Persian Language Preservation Day, Khamenei linked Iran’s recent conflict to the themes of the Persian epic poem Shahnameh, written by renowned poet Ferdowsi.
According to the statement, Iran “has demonstrated during the recent holy defense (against the American-Zionist invasion) that the legendary stories of Ferdowsi are the reality of his life and a reflection of his heroic character”.
Khamenei also said that the “brave, Quranic concepts” in the Shahnameh unite all Iranian ethnicities and social classes in preserving their identity, independence, and fighting against ‘Zahhak-like’ aggressors.
In Persian mythology, Zahhak is considered a symbol of tyranny and evil.
The statement comes amid continued tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel after months of conflict and diplomatic standoff over Tehran’s nuclear program and regional security.
Iranian leaders have repeatedly described the recent fighting as a defense of national sovereignty and independence, while also calling for greater unity across the country.
