A charity auction offering lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett and NBA star Stephen Curry has raised more than $9 million for two nonprofit organizations.
The winning bid of $9,000,100 was made during a week-long auction that ended Thursday on eBay. The identity of the bidder has not been disclosed.
Buffett, Curry and Curry’s wife, Ayesha Curry, will host the winner and seven guests at lunch on June 24 in Omaha, Nebraska.
According to the organizations involved, the proceeds from the auction will be divided between Glide Foundation and Eat. Learn. game..
Buffett is expected to match the winning bid for both charities, bringing the total donation to about $27 million.
Glide supports people experiencing poverty, homelessness and substance abuse in San Francisco, while Eat. Learn. play. The focus is on early childhood literacy, nutrition and physical activity.
Buffett has supported Glide for decades and previously raised more than $53 million through the charity luncheon auction between 2000 and 2022.
The investor, whose wealth is estimated by Forbes at $143.5 billion, has pledged to donate most of his wealth to charity.
