Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Monday he believed the Chinese market would open up to American chip suppliers after a visit to China with US President Donald Trump last week.
Nvidia has received a license from the US government to sell its H200 chips, but has not received approval from Chinese authorities, who are promoting China’s own chip suppliers.
Trump’s talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping did not yield any immediate breakthrough in selling H200 chips to Nvidia.
“I think the market will open up over time,” Huang said in an interview with Bloomberg Television at an event hosted by Dell.
His comments are also strategic. NVIDIA has strong business interests in China, especially for AI and data-center chips.
By signaling optimism, Huang is highlighting the importance of keeping that market accessible while acknowledging existing limitations.
Huang says China’s market may open up over time; Political and trade tensions may ease, allowing normal business to resume.
This could happen if the two countries reach a comprehensive trade or technology agreement.
