Gaming phones have been a center of attraction for Lenovo for quite some time now. The last Legion phone launched in 2022 and the company went quiet on smartphones after that. Now Lenovo Legion Y70 is back, Officially launched in China on May 19.
The most striking feature is its battery: 8,000mAh with 90W wired fast charging and bypass charging. Bypass charging lets the phone draw power directly from the charger instead of routing it through the battery during heavy gaming sessions, reducing heat buildup. Most flagships come with batteries between 5,000mAh and 6,000mAh, so this is a significant step up.
The chip is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, not the elite version, but firmly in premium territory. RAM goes up to 16GB, storage goes up to 1TB UFS 4.1 in LPDDR5X Ultra. Cooling is also given serious attention. A triple-layer system combines a 5,500mm2 vapor chamber, liquid metal thermal paste and high-conductivity gel. Lenovo says this reduces CPU core temperatures by about 7 degrees Celsius under load.
Display, camera and everything else
The Lenovo Legion Y70 display is a 6.82-inch BOE Q10 AMOLED, 2K resolution, 144Hz adaptive refresh, 360Hz touch sampling, and up to 7,000 nits peak brightness. Dolby Vision and DC dimming are on board. Lenovo claims the panel uses less power than the 1.5K screens found on competing gaming phones, which matters during long sessions.
The Lenovo Legion Y70 sports a 50MP Sony LYT-710 main sensor, 8MP ultrawide, 2-in-1 secondary sensor, and a 32MP front camera with OIS. IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings cover dust and water resistance across the board. The phone runs Android 16 and supports dual physical SIM and dual eSIM. The confirmed starting price is CNY 3,999, which is about $555 at current exchange rates. No global launch has been announced.
As we noted earlier when the comeback was first teased, Lenovo has historically kept Legion phones in China. So far there is nothing to indicate that change is taking place. For anyone in the market for a dedicated gaming phone in the regions where it lands, the 8,000mAh battery alone sets it apart from the field.
