A surprising update confirms that a bone found near Nancy Guthrie’s home dates back 750 years to the time of her disappearance, taking the discovery beyond the scope of law enforcement’s criminal investigation.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Alec Wysopal was hiking in the scorching desert area near Guthrie’s home on May 7 when he came across a bone.
“Oh, what’s that? That’s a bone…it looks like a leg bone,” Wysopal, who was livestreaming to his nearly 10,000 subscribers, said on camera.
Police reached the spot and collected the bone. The police findings are not being treated as a criminal investigation, he told US Sun. According to Tucson Police, the bone was determined to be human, but the investigation would be a “prehistoric anthropological investigation.”
“Whether it’s Nancy Guthrie or some ancient person, you shouldn’t hit them with a stick,” Watson told the outlet.
The recent incident has raised concerns of podcasters and social media influencers taking matters into their own hands in order to solve the case of Guthrie’s disappearance. The search for Guthrie’s disappearance has been ongoing for months.
Earlier, there had been a public dispute between Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and FBI Director Kash Patel over the timeline of federal involvement.
Patel alleged that the bureau was not invited to assist for several days, during which time the crime scene was released and was contaminated by blood splatter on the porch by reporters and delivery drivers, as reported by Fox News.
“We could have analyzed it in a matter of days and probably got better information or more information,” Patel said.
Sheriff Nanos denied Patel’s claims in a statement and said his office had notified the FBI task force, and federal officers were on the scene along with Pima County authorities.
