softbank group Shares rose more than 12% on Friday and continued their rally after Nvidia’s blockbuster earnings gave AI-linked stocks a boost.
The company’s shares closed 20% higher on Thursday, adding more than $35 billion to its market cap.
SoftBank’s rally is also being boosted by sharp growth in Arm holdings, in which the Japanese company has a majority stake. Arm shares rose more than 16% overnight, after gaining more than 15% in the previous session.
Nvidia’s recent results have reinforced optimism over continued spending on AI infrastructure and data centers.
The potential OpenAI listing is also drawing investors to SoftBank, which has invested heavily in the ChatGPT maker, with the IPO set to unlock substantial value for SoftBank.
The company has emerged as one of the biggest backers of OpenAI, investing more than $30 billion in OpenAI and booking nearly $45 billion in related profits in the fiscal year ending in March.
