Saxophonist Dick Perry, who played with Pink Floyd on some of their biggest hits, has died at the age of 83.
On Friday, May 22, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour announced the news of Perry’s death on Twitter (formerly Twitter), writing, “My dear friend Dick Perry passed away this morning.”
He shared, “Since I was seventeen, I’ve played in bands with Dick on saxophone, including Pink Floyd.”
“His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, epitomizing the extreme beauty that millions know and is a big part of songs like ‘Shine on You Crazy Diamond,’ ‘Wish You Were Here,’ ‘Us and Them’ and ‘Money.'”
Gilmour concluded, “He played in my last band which included Live 8 with Rick Wright and Pink Floyd for the On an Island Tour.”
Notably, the 80-year-old English musician did not reveal what took Dick Perry’s life.
It is worth mentioning that Gilmour, who shared a carousel of photographs with Parry, has a photograph of him on the stage of Cambridge’s Victoria Cinema in 1963.
