Do you know that our prayers are like fragrant offerings to the Lord? Imagine God sitting on his throne and receiving all our prayers. He is surrounded by four creatures that are beyond our imagination, and 24 elders who represent all of God’s people redeemed by Jesus, the Lamb of God. Amazing creatures and elders place bowls of fragrant offerings before God, and these represent all our prayers.
We don’t usually think about fragrance when we consider God’s holiness or God’s presence, but perhaps we need to. We know that God created the bloodhound’s nose, which is about 50 times more sensitive than our nose. So perhaps we can imagine God breathing deeply in the most alluring scent in the universe – our prayers. He takes a deep breath and smiles. God loves us more than we can imagine, and He delights in hearing whatever we say. Whether we express happiness or thanksgiving or surprise or sadness or grief or worry or concern, the God who loves us is always eager to listen to us.
We can imagine that our prayers smell more satisfying to God than freshly baked bread or freshly cut flowers. Our prayers are precious fragrance, offered to God in a golden bowl.
Do you know that your prayerful thoughts and words are enjoyed as the sweetest fragrance in the highest heaven?
