The Oscars, the Grammys, the Met Gala, the BAFTAs — it used to be that if we wanted to see runway pieces in the wild, we had to wait until awards season. The red carpet has long been considered the arbiter of style, and if celebrities want to make a name for themselves, the easiest way to do so will be with a carefully crafted look. Remember Elizabeth Hurley’s Versace ‘Safety Pin’ Dress? Britney and Justin’s double denim? Gwyneth Paltrow in Ralph Lauren, or Halle Berry in Elie Saab? You may not remember the awards show or the year, but outfits are forever imprinted in our minds (for better or worse) — the best form of publicity.

After the 2026 Met Gala, my fellow editors and I were discussing our favorite looks, and we realized how many were missing show factor We were hoping. The late ’90s and early ’00s gave us such a wealth of red carpet moments that we still discuss, 30 years later, in a time that seems a little less, at best, than today. In the age of social media when fashion commentary is far more democratized and we don’t have to wait 24 hours for newspapers and magazines to get the first look at celebrity outfits, we expect a plentiful supply of outfit inspiration — who, where, and what to wear. What? And so naturally, we’re equally thrilled with the outfits worn by A-listers on the red carpet.
But with off-duty wardrobes under intense paparazzi scrutiny, the role of a celebrity stylist has now extended beyond gowns to also creating unforgettable street style looks (see: Katie Holmes’ Khaite bra-digan, and Jennifer Lawrence in The Row), and it’s these fashion moments that have the biggest impact on how we actually dress today.

As a mix of both project promotion and a more casual dress code, the press tour wardrobe has become the new watercooler moment. Behind the scenes of Margot Robbie’s red carpet dresses Wuthering Heights premiere, it was A Dilara Findikoglu Corset and Very Low rise leather trousers while going for a BBC interview In fact our entire focus was on that. The same happened with arrivals at the Cannes Film Festival recently – with a relatively quiet run of red carpet outfits, it was airport-appropriate that we enthusiastically screenshotted to replicate with our own wardrobes (thanks, Daisy Edgar-Jones).

So, now that our appetite for galas and gowns is waning and we’re actually looking for celebrity street style to get us talking (think Jacob Elordi’s roster of Bottega bags, Zoe and Harry’s duo dressing and whoever we have to thank for the recent spate of A-listers in wide-legs and loafers), we’ve gathered the stars who are really hitting the press in 2026. Has mastered the art of the tour-drobe. Hint: Don’t expect to see any double denim or swan dresses here.
