Phil Collins has shared a positive update on his health and revealed he is open to the possibility of performing live again in the future.
The former Genesis drummer and singer has faced continuing medical challenges since suffering a spinal cord injury in 2007. Over the years, Collins has undergone several surgeries and has struggled with mobility issues, which have affected his ability to perform on stage.
During Genesis’ farewell concert in 2022, Collins performed sitting on a chair while his son Nick Collins played drums for the band.
Earlier this year, Collins spoke openly about the severity of his health problems, revealing that he relied on a full-time live-in nurse to help manage his medication and daily care. He also admitted to experiencing serious problems with his knees and general physical health.
However, speaking in a new interview bbc breakfast On May 22, the 75-year-old musician said that he was feeling much better now. Collins said he is healthier than he has been in “a long time.”
Collins also confirmed that she was invited to perform at the 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, but decided against it.
“They asked me if I would perform and I said no, because to do something like that you have to be match fit,” he said.
He explained that returning to the stage would require extensive rehearsals and vocal preparation, for which he currently does not feel prepared.
“You can’t just go on stage and you have to rehearse and then by that time, if you’re not singing, your voice will be shot and then it won’t be good. So I wouldn’t want to do that.”
The musician stated that performing at that level requires being “match fit”, adding that he would prefer to refuse to give a performance that he feels is not strong enough.
Despite turning down the gig, Collins left a door open for a return to music. He admitted that he still thinks about it and said that he would “consider” touring or performing live again at some point.
“But would I go out again, I would consider it, yes. I’m constantly telling myself, I’d be better off going back to my studio at home.”
The singer previously appeared on stage using a stick and has undergone five knee operations.
