“Make sure you know the status of your herd, pay careful attention to your herd” (Proverbs 27:23)

Janice was a high-level executive who required excellence and exceptional performance from those under her leadership. She was the general manager of a credit card unit when five of her 2,000 employees knowingly concealed a $24 million loss for which she was accountable. Her “no failure” policy put a lot of pressure on her employees and she failed to recognize how this leadership style affected others. This discouraged employees from bringing problems to him. She was an intense perfectionist who others viewed as intimidating and confrontational. She was very temperamental. His subordinates were afraid to report any bad news so they lied about it.

Do you feel like what you achieve is never good enough? Do projects have to be perfect? Do you feel that you have to give 100 percent to everything you do or else you will be mediocre or fail?

Perfectionism refers to a set of self-defeating thoughts and behaviors aimed at reaching extremely high unrealistic goals. Perfectionism in our society is often mistakenly viewed as desirable or necessary for success. However, studies show that
A perfectionistic attitude actually hinders success. The desire to be perfect can take away your sense of personal satisfaction and cause you and others to fail to achieve as much as people who make more realistic efforts. In this situation Janice loses her job but is later given another chance to save one of the company’s small businesses. He realized that he needed to understand the people around him more. She learned from her experience and was successful in her next assignment with the company. The way to become a transparent person is to get feedback from the people around you. This is the only way we will be able to avoid perfectionism. We must ask for feedback and be prepared to respond to input.

What will others say about your management style? Do you promote dialogue and encourage others to bring issues to your attention? Are you willing to work collaboratively with your team to solve problems?
