Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered another disappointing performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. After finishing seventh in IPL 2025, the team performed even worse in IPL 2026 and finished at the bottom of the table with just 8 points under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant.
The poor results have now forced the Lucknow-based franchise to think seriously about changing the team leadership and captain Rishabh Pant is under immense pressure. When Pant took charge in 2025, the franchise had high expectations from him, but things turned out to be a nightmare.
Tom Moody admits LSG failed to live up to expectations in IPL 2026
LSG struggled badly this season; From batting failures to poor decisions on the field, almost everything went wrong for Lucknow Super Giants. Now, talks of a complete reset inside the franchise after the disaster of IPL 2026 seem more realistic than ever.

After a crushing seven-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Lucknow on May 23, Lucknow Super Giants’ global director of cricket Tom Moody admitted that the team did not perform at the level he expected. He shared that the LSG team management is now planning to sit together and carefully review every department after the terrible season.
Pant’s captaincy has become one of the biggest concerns for the franchise. In the last two IPL seasons, under his leadership Lucknow managed to win only 10 matches while losing 18 matches. This raised many questions as to whether Pant is the right person to lead the team going forward.

At the same time, Rishabh Pant also failed to do wonders with the bat. In two seasons for LSG, Pant scored 581 runs with a strike rate of 135.74, which is well below the standards set earlier in his career. And now Moody’s has openly said that LSG will consider a change in leadership.
“From a captaincy point of view, you know, he has found it challenging, obviously, and the results reflect that. And you have to wonder if that pressure is reflected in his performances with the bat. I know this season has been a tough season for us, but we will consider it; we will take time, and we will consider it. We will consider all things,” Tom Moody said in the press conference, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
He further explained, “But certainly, we have not lived up to the expectation or the standard that we expect of ourselves. And certainly, when it comes to the leadership of the franchise, it’s certainly something that we will consider very seriously, you know, what it looks like in the future. Like every department, when you reflect on a season, we will be making some thoughtful decisions, but it certainly feels like we need to consider a reset.”

Tom Moody refuses to point the finger at anyone
Recently, Rishabh Pant said that too many people are involved in leadership decisions, which led to more confusion around the team and this was visible during the 2026 season.
Later, LSG head coach Justin Langer expressed his disappointment over Rishabh Pant’s performance as both captain and batsman. Still, the team management does not want to blame just one player for the failure. Moody concluded by saying, “I think we’re all responsible (for the disappointing season). I don’t think this is the time to point the finger at any individual.
I believe we all bear accountability, and now is not the time to place blame on any particular department. We all need time to soberly reflect on this, but there are some things that need to be addressed, and they will be addressed.”
