Motorola has a new big-screen foldable to challenge Google and Samsung, and it has a feature fans have been waiting for – stylus support. The Razer Fold brings the stylus-compatible foldable back to the US less than a year after Samsung discontinued S Pen support on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

In many ways, the Motorola Razr Fold and its optional Moto Pen Ultra are better than the companion Galaxy Z Fold 6 and its S Pen. Unlike Samsung’s foldable offerings, the Razer Fold uses an Active Pen Ultra stylus with Bluetooth connectivity that works on both the cover and the main display.

Officially, the Moto Pen Ultra is a $99 add-on to the Razer Fold, but you can get the stylus for free right now when you buy a Razer Fold from Motorola. The separate nature of the accessory is one drawback, and another drawback is that the Pen Ultra has a somewhat bulky charging case and must be operated independently of the foldable. For those reasons, I expected to see the Pen Ultra as an unnecessary expense and yet another thing to carry around or charge.

As it turns out, Motorola thought of almost everything when it comes to the Pen Ultra. It can do more than just help you draw, annotate, or write. If you have a Razer Fold or are planning to get one, The Pen Ultra is a must-have, and these are six things you need to try with it.

The Moto Pen Ultra connects to the Razer Fold over Bluetooth, enabling features that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. One of those features is called knock KnockAnd it lets you take screenshots by hitting the bottom of your pen twice on a flat surface. It’s a neat trick that, in my testing, works beyond flat surfaces — I can double-tap my arm with the Pen Ultra, and it will capture whatever is on my screen using the Knock Knock tool.

To start using it, open settings app Connect the stylus and tap smart pen In the list. Then, tap pen control find more knock Knock is listed under gestures. flip the toggle to the side knock KnockAnd you’re able to start using your pen to take screenshots right away.

Remember that Motorola doesn’t recommend using Knock Knock on any of your Razer Fold screens, as it could damage them.

    Track your pen’s location

With an active stylus that uses a separate charging case for storage, it’s easier not to worry about losing the pen, the charging case, or both. One thing I liked about Samsung’s S Pen Fold Edition is that it comes housed in a Galaxy Z Fold case for easy storage. However, Motorola thought about it and added a neat location tracking feature to the Pen Ultra. It’s important to note that the Pen Ultra doesn’t have a built-in tracker; Instead, there are two Razer Fold features that help you keep track of your stylus.

When your stylus is out of its case you can get reminders by navigating to Settings > Smart Pen > Out-of-case reminder. After flipping the toggle, you can get reminders after five minutes, 10 minutes, an hour, or a day after you’ve left it outside the charging case. There is also a toggle next to last known location When enabled, records the location of the pen when you last removed it from its charging case.

in the settings app smart pen page, under last known locationYou can see the exact coordinates of the location where you recently took out the Pen Ultra. This can help you remember where you last used it, making it easier to track down if you lose it.

Draw any text field to type

Another cool trick you can do with the Razer Fold and Moto Pen Ultra is to use your stylus to draw on any text field. This doesn’t require changing any settings – just take out your pen and start drawing in the text field, and Motorola’s software will convert your handwriting to text in real time.

This is a useful feature that lets you quickly fill in text fields while you’re in the process of using your stylus. Instead of holding it down and typing with your fingers, you can simply draw in the text field with the pen, letting the software handle the conversion.

Take a photo or start a video

By default, you can use the Moto Pen Ultra in some Motorola apps, including the camera. toggle is called Use pen actions in camera Below smart pen Settings page and camera When the submenu Camera app opens, you can press the side button on the Pen Ultra once to take a photo or start or stop video recording, depending on the camera mode.

It’s like a remote control for your smartphone camera, and there’s no better form factor to take advantage of it than foldable. The Razer Fold is like a tripod, and you can prop it up somewhere while using the Pen Ultra to take photos from a distance and discreetly. This way, everyone can be in the group photo without having to use a photo timer or AI editing features.

Customize Moto Pen Ultra side button

Speaking of that side button, it’s the key to maximizing your Moto Pen Ultra. When the pen is connected, open pen control in the menu settings app find more long press the button. Tap that menu, and you’ll see a list of actions you can trigger with that shortcut. they include annotated, new note, hover to enlargeAnd circle to find. When you long press the Pen Ultra side button, you’ll be able to instantly go to one of those features.

I like Circle for searching, so I’ve set the Pen Ultra to launch that experience when I long press the side button. The Annotate option marks your screen, and hovers over certain parts of your screen to enlarge when you hover over them with the stylus. Whichever option you prefer, you can choose it in the stylus’ settings.

Button utility on the other hand instrument panelWhich opens by short-pressing the pen ultra. Or, you can tap the pen’s floating screen bubble to open the toolbar. Either way, opening the toolbar will give you access to a quick button and four shortcuts to the Pen Ultra’s settings. Luckily, you can customize those shortcuts exactly as you want in the Settings app.

To do this, go to smart pen tap more instrument panel. Then, select four features or apps to include in the toolbar. The only four features available are default: hover to enlarge, screen record, annotatedAnd notes. However, you can replace any or all of those feature shortcuts with app shortcuts. This allows you to launch apps directly from the Pen Ultra’s toolbar.

I came to test the Pen Ultra thinking the stylus was a gimmick, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The stylus is great for smooth drawing and excellent palm rejection on the Razer Fold, but it’s also fantastic for other features like gesture controls, shortcut activation, and more.

    Best foldable + pen combo

The Motorola Razr Fold and Pen Ultra are a perfect pair, as the Razr Fold is the rare foldable that lets you use the stylus on both screens. It’s another thing to carry it with you, but Motorola makes it worth your while with the main Pen Ultra features beyond basic drawing or annotating.
