League stage of 70 matches Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has officially concluded, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting playoff battle. After almost two months of relentless cricket, dramatic finishes, individual brilliance and intense competition, four teams have emerged as genuine title contenders. defending champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)And Rajasthan Royals (RR) Now they will fight for the final prize at the end of the tournament.

RCB, GT and SRH all finished the league stage with 18 points, with net run rate becoming the deciding factor in determining the top two spots. RCB’s impressive performances in important games helped them clinch the first position, while Gujarat Titans finished second after another remarkably consistent campaign. Despite playing some of the most explosive cricket of the season, Sunrisers Hyderabad missed out on a place in the top two. Rajasthan Royals made it to the final playoff spot with 16 points after a dramatic late surge which culminated in a must-win win at the Wankhede Stadium.

Qualifier 1: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Titans

This is the heavyweight contest everyone was expecting. The top two teams of the season will clash in Dharamshala with a direct ticket to the IPL 2026 final at stake. The winner advances directly to the title clash, while the losing team gets another chance through Qualifier 2.

Both teams looked incredibly complete throughout the season. RCB have combined fearless batting with superior bowling discipline, while GT have once again built their campaign on consistency, tactical awareness and calm execution under pressure.

The picturesque venue of Dharamsala is expected to provide one of the most attractive conditions of the playoffs. The pitch traditionally offers pace, bounce and pace at the start of the innings, making the powerplay phase extremely important. Fast bowlers who can hit tough lengths are likely to get assistance, especially in evening conditions.

RCB’s aggressive batting unit would like to attack right from the start and put Gujarat under pressure before the bowlers settle down. Their top order has been one of the most destructive combinations this season, regularly dismantling opposition attacks inside the first six overs. However, Gujarat Titans have one of the most balanced bowling line-ups in the tournament, with fast bowlers able to exploit the Dharamsala conditions and spinners who can slow down the scoring rate during the middle overs.

Eliminator: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals

Unlike Qualifier 1, there is no margin for error here. The Eliminator is a straight knockout battle – lose and the campaign ends immediately, win and the dream lives for another game. With both sides having explosive match-winners, this match has all the ingredients of a playoff thriller.

SRH are entering the competition having played one of the most aggressive brands of cricket this season. His batting approach has been fearless, with the batsman constantly looking for boundaries and quick scoring bursts. Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have relied more on their balance, adaptability and ability to squeeze the opponents through spin and smart bowling changes.

The venue of New Chandigarh can significantly influence the direction of the game. The boundaries at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh Stadium are larger than many other IPL venues, which can reduce the effectiveness of pure power-hitting and put bowlers back into the contest.

This situation could particularly suit Rajasthan Royals and their spin-heavy strategy. RR’s slow bowlers have time and again controlled the middle overs this season by forcing the batsmen to play risky shots. His variations and ability to attack on both sides of the bat could be crucial against SRH’s ultra-aggressive batting lineup.

The challenge for Sunrisers Hyderabad will be to maintain their attacking intent without losing wickets in clusters. If their top order survives the spin test and takes advantage during the powerplay, they can put RR under immense pressure. However, if Rajasthan bowlers manage to slow down the scoring rate during the middle overs, SRH may be forced to take risky decisions towards the end of the innings.
