If While season 3 of Euphoria will be HBO’s last show (at the time of publishing this article, nothing has been confirmed), it’s definitely arriving with a bang and sparing no expense with A-list cameos. It stars Lexie’s showrunner boss Patty Lance, played by Sharon Stone; the shiny neck brace-wearing stripper Magic of the Silver Slipper, played by Rosalia; Alamo Brown’s henchman G, played by former NFL pro Marshawn Lynch; Brown’s mother, played by Danielle Deadwyler; Trisha Paytas as herself; And this week’s notable introduction features a flashback with Colman Domingo’s Ali, an intelligent prostitute played by Natasha Lyonne.
Lyonne’s role in Sam Levinson’s gritty drama has been kept a secret since her casting was announced last October. Even representatives from HBO remained tight-lipped on details in the days leading up to the episode’s release on Sunday. When we spoke to Leone two weeks ago, it wasn’t surprising that the actress, writer, director and producer were also tight-lipped for fear of entering spoiler territory. But that didn’t stop Lyonne, who was headed to Cannes the next morning, from revealing to Who What Wear the fun and serendipitous story behind how her busy guest role came to be.
On meeting Levinson and preparing his guest appearance Excitement Season 3:
I met Sam at Colman Domingo’s private dinner for (his film) rustinAnd we immediately shut it down. We spent the time after dinner sitting on a small sofa in the exact same area. Sam is fantastic, and we have a lot of touchpoints that basically make us double over laughing. By the end of the story, it became a running joke between me, Coleman, and Sam for probably a year how important it was that Coleman and I got a chance to do this this season. Excitement. But it made no sense. None of us thought this was actually happening. It was definitely a running joke between the three of us over text messages for a year, and then all of a sudden, I got a text from Sam saying, “Okay, it’s going to happen next week, Natasha.” And it was just like, “Okay, sure, Sam. I’ll see you there.”
On her friendship with Colman Domingo:
Colman Domingo, the little love of my life. I consider Colman Domingo a top-notch colleague. Coleman is so incredible at putting on these events where he really takes care of his life and the people on his team. We all became very close because I was seeing Matthew at the time, and I, Matthew, (Domingo’s partner) Raul and Coleman decided to go to Puerto Vallarta for the holidays. We celebrated the New Year together. This was during Covid, and we rented this house. It was the funniest and sweetest thing you’ve ever seen, and we became true lifelong friends from that vacation.
That short journey led to a lot of journeys together, like (Domingo’s script) Nat King Cole (biopic) Unforgettable), For example. I remember he had it open on his laptop and we both were working on a lot of things. We were also watching this documentary on Phil Tippett because I was about to start writing with one of ours, Alice Ju Russian doll Writer, episode featuring Nick Nolte poker face. It was just like we were at the right turn All There was a feeling in the air in that house about these amazing things that were about to happen, and Coleman and I. We talked about it too, that it would be such a calm before the storm. Since we’re both really traveling, living people in this industry, we’ll have moments from time to time, but we’ve been working here the whole time. We truly share a love for humans. It doesn’t matter how high or low the scale is, it doesn’t matter.
On giving Levinson the full-nudity exemption:
Suffice it to say, I am what they call in the business “never naked.” I thought it would be really funny—because it was Excitement And Coleman and Sam—to say I’m going to give these guys full-nudity immunity, and CAA and my lawyers of 35 years, everybody was amazed. They were like, “No way! Do you know what show this is?” But I think, unfortunately, from what Sam told me, I don’t even think I’ll get a full cheek or anything. But I came prepared.
I haven’t seen it, but from what I’ve heard, it’s really very touching and not about that. Even Sam said, “We tried it this way. Now, we’re putting all the medications down and getting dressed.” And Colman, he is beyond the most extraordinary actor. She’s very deeply present, and she’s in that role… I mean, that fucking scene in the dining room (from Season 2, Special Episode 1). I know everybody talks about it, that and Zendaya. That scene is extraordinary – extraordinary writing, direction, acting, cinematography. This is a perfect moment. I was also very excited to work with him, and for the most part, that was it. I think we just wanted to pay a little homage to this special moment.
I have all these other TV shows I’m doing, but I was so inspired to be a part of this historic, legendary moment in time. Excitement. I was so impressed that they included me, and yes, since I never go naked… it felt right to let them know I tried! I don’t know if you remember that joke snl Monologue. I don’t know who wrote it (me or (John) Mulaney or Jake (Nordwynd)), but it says, “Fred (Armisen) and I are the only two celebrities who have a sex tape that no one wants to buy.”
on becoming a part of Excitement Canon:
When you watch (the role), I hope it brings some happiness. I mean, one funny thing is that a lot of people have done that for me over the years Russian doll Or poker face, Where you come, and it’s a blessing to have someone come (as a guest star). to be part of Excitement The canon universe is the most dynamic thing. I was so impressed to be a small part of Coleman’s journey on that show. Behind the jokes and the full-nudity exemption, the idea was that these two stalwarts of Sam and Coleman and, apparently, Zendaya… come on – she’s the one. Good luck, Keanu! To be a small part of their extraordinary journey truly means a great deal to me. That’s why I said, “Take it all!” You guys want full nudity? Whatever you’re doing, it’s working. My role is really trying to complement a moment in Coleman’s bigger story. I think I’m there to serve Sam and support Coleman and Zendaya in the bigger picture.
on surrounding social commentary Excitement Season 3:
The weather is amazing. I just think that maybe it’s a perfect example of what we were going for in a way, which is that, basically, something would be happening that’s right if people have enough energy to have a hot take about Season 3 or Sam or what’s going on on that set. I will tell you this much: What was going on on the set that day was amazing. And I’ve known for seven years 15-20-There was a different kind of sex drama every day. But globally speaking, the experience we had in that show was the most amazing experience of our lives. That was my pain. They are my people for life. It’s a tectonic plate-shifting cultural show. it just is. This is a fact. This is why people are very interested in commenting on it.
Of course, there are millions of perspectives on everything because everyone has a real experience, and it should be respected that they are actually having a lived experience at different moments. like it Rashomon. all life is Rashomon. I think this is what happened. Whatever you think has happened. This is some empirical truth about what we think has happened. … It was such a close crew and so warm and creative, and we were able to do all these different takes and versions. It was an incredible way to go to work.
