Gujarat Titans (GT) had a very poor performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala, but things got even more dramatic during the post-match press conference. GT star Glenn Phillips lost his cool when he was asked the question whether the team had given up mentally during the huge chase against RCB.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have completely dominated the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala by posting a massive score of 254 runs on the board. In reply, Gujarat Titans collapsed badly and were bowled out for just 162 runs. The pressure of a big target was clearly visible on the GT batsmen as wickets kept falling, with only Shahrukh Khan (68) able to score.
‘Stupid question!’: Glenn Phillips attacks reporter after GT’s crushing defeat to RCB in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1
Many were surprised to see Glenn Phillips participating in the media interaction after the crushing defeat as he was not even a part of the playing eleven. Usually the captain or coach comes after such big matches, but this time neither Shubman Gill nor Ashish Nehra came in front of the media.

During the post-match press conference, a reporter asked Glenn Phillips if Gujarat Titans had already accepted defeat after RCB scored massive runs in Dharamshala. The Kiwi batsman immediately lost his temper and described the question as “stupid” and “horrible”. He strongly defended the GT batsmen, saying that no team ever goes into a match thinking of surrender and the players gave their best effort against RCB.
Glenn Phillips said in the post-match press conference, “It’s a silly question. It’s a silly question really. Nobody goes there waiting to go, ‘Oh, you know what? We’ll just leave it.’ Why would we do that as professional cricketers? It’s a terrible question. We went there; we gave everything. Unfortunately, when you’re trying to chase 250, everything has to be perfect. And we’re there to try.” “We went in and fixed everything, and obviously that didn’t happen.”
Glenn Phillips reveals the real reason for GT’s batting collapse against RCB
Phillips also told how difficult it is to chase a target above 250 in T20 cricket. He admitted that scoreboard pressure played a big role in the defeat, especially after losing early wickets. GT suffered a major blow with the cheap dismissals of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler in Dharamshala.
The Kiwi star further added, “There’s a huge amount of scoreboard pressure when you’re trying to chase 250. And, you know, very few teams have done that. Obviously, Punjab Kings have managed to do that a few times, which is phenomenal. And I think they’ve probably made it look easier than ever. I’ve never been a part of a team that has got anywhere near 250, so, you know, sometimes it’s just that.”

Glenn Phillips gave the best answer after the journalist’s strange question
Phillips faced another awkward moment when a reporter asked him about attending a press conference despite not playing in the match. But the New Zealand star handled it calmly and explained that every player in the team shares the responsibility during difficult moments.
He signed off by saying, “No, it’s OK, it’s OK. It’s all good. Yes, obviously we’re all part of the team together, and we all have the same media roles to play. I think sometimes the outside perspective of someone who’s not playing the game, especially for guys who now have to go and play eliminators (helps). It’s really important for them to calm down, get their head where they need to be.”
