Over the years, I have trained myself to resist the allure of subtle tendencies. Instead, my focus has become solely on investing in classic, foundational items – pieces that are guaranteed to hold their value and stay in style. Although it has been a challenge, it has been worth it as it has allowed me to save not only money but also time spent getting dressed. I can rely on the fact that my wardrobe has pieces that are “in” and naturally pair well with each other, taking away the daily dilemma of outfit planning.
With Memorial Day Weekend behind us, marking the start of summer, I’m focusing on warm-weather style and taking an anti-trend approach when organizing my wardrobe. My aim is to create a highly selective collection of versatile, chic and timeless items that will serve as the foundation of my summer uniform. For example, while beautiful, I’m ditching the bloomer shorts, which are limited to certain occasions, in favor of polished and practical Bermuda shorts that easily transition from the office to drinks. This is just one example. Keep reading to see four other summer trends I’m ditching and four anti-trends I’m picking up.
Ditch: Zipped Sweaters
Style: Open-Weave Knitting

When one thinks of summer attire, sweaters aren’t usually the first thing that comes to mind, but they’re still important, especially for a balmy morning or a cool evening. Since not all knits are created equal, this year I’ve been intentionally paying attention to the style I wear. While I love lightweight zip-ups and open-weave sweaters, those with slouchy scoop necks are becoming a cute alternative. This style was spotted recently Elsa Hosk, who styled it with low-rise Bermuda shorts and flip-flops for a casual outing in LA

Ditch: Animal-Shaped Bags
Wear: Knitted Totes
I’m all for personality items, like animal-shaped bags. However, something like this is very seasonal, and if you want to be a smart shopper or at least act like one, the versatile accessories will be available in 2027. For example, take a straw or raffia bag. This item is not only a classic, but has also recently proven its versatility, strengthening the need for every fashion person to buy at least one. While it was once assigned to beaches and pools, more recently styled with swimwear and coverups, the raffia tote bag has been paired with anything from slouchy to structured styles, trousers, jeans, skirts, shorts and dresses.
