Meta is certainly making some moves this month and announcing a series of new subscription plans for its apps.
Naomi Gleit, Head of Product at Meta, announced It has been told on Instagram that the company is launching subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. techcrunch). Gleet teases these subscriptions, asking, “What if subscriptions could give you more than your apps?” What is running globally are the Instagram Plus, WhatsApp Plus and Facebook Plus plans.
The publication notes that these plans cost $3.99 per month for Facebook, Instagram and $2.99 per month for WhatsApp. Gleit says these plans provide users with “enriched ways” to “express and connect” with others on those platforms. Early previews on Instagram showed vibrant, expressive animations for liking Stories, which TechCrunch says are called “super hearts”. Additionally, their report states that Instagram Plus subscribers can “spotlight a Story once a week for additional views, extend a Story beyond 24 hours, preview a Story without showing as a viewer,” and much more.
Meta’s announcement continued with a teaser of what was to come: a test for a “Meta One” subscription plan. It has been told that there will be no impact on this scheme and the plans of Meta’s apps.Meta Verified,” which is meant to help creators maintain their identity on their services. Meta One is reportedly going to include “creators, businesses, and Meta AI power users.”

Two other Meta One trials are planned, but it has been said that these will impact overseas markets. The publication states that the company is preparing to introduce Meta One Essential at $14.99 per month and Meta One Advanced at $49.99 per month. This upgraded plan will mirror Essential’s offerings (which are similar to Meta Verified), but will include greater presence in Facebook/Instagram searches, a bold “Follow” button on your profile, and more.
This is an interesting move by Meta, considering that it laid off 8,000 employees last week. there were already rumblings of it the employees were unhappy Some AI-based decisions are being followed on Meta. With 8,000 members gone, it looks like Meta will continue to focus strongly on AI and its advancements. The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said he “doesn’t expect many layoffs this year,” but people aren’t holding their breath. Meta has a brutal history of mass layoffs, affecting thousands of people.

I looked at the comments on Instagram (I know, I know) and the reactions seemed divided. Some people, like content creators, like what the meta has to say. Others do not feel this way. It seems a little strange to think about extending the subscription for certain features or something, but it’s not completely out of left field. I believe the low cost of “Plus” is a main attraction in Meta’s apps. As more Surfaces come out and users get their hands on it, we’ll see if it’s really worth it. But it will still attract only those who will use it.
