The company said Opus 4.8 “reaches new heights on our measurement of social qualities.” It was also claimed that the new model is more inclined to support user autonomy and act in the best interests of the user. Furthermore, it is much less likely to be misleading or facilitate abuse.
According to Anthropic, it is also more honest, and more likely to highlight when it is unsure about something rather than jumping to conclusions or making unverified claims about its work. The company’s assessment also shows that code written in Opus 4.8 is four times less likely to have flaws reported.
For users who are concerned about the rising costs of AI use, Opus 4.8 offers some good news. Using Opus 4.8’s fast mode for faster responses is now three times cheaper than before. This means you can use the model even for simple queries without worrying that it will drain your tokens too quickly.
In addition to the new model, Anthropic has also introduced new features for the cloud.
Users can now control how much effort the cloud puts into a task. A new ‘Effort’ option in the model selector lets users choose between low, medium, high and maximum.
With low effort settings, the cloud will provide results faster, while higher settings will enable the AI to think longer and provide more detailed answers. It’s also worth noting that higher effort settings will burn through tokens much faster, and the company recommends only using the ‘Max’ effort mode for the most difficult tasks.

A new ‘Dynamic Workflows’ feature is also available in the Research Preview and may allow users to work on larger problems in Cloud Code. Just give it a task and it can plan everything and work on it by running hundreds of sub-agents simultaneously. The cloud will also verify the output before showing it to the user.
Cloud Opus 4.8 is available everywhere starting today, and the company also plans to release Mythos-class models in the coming weeks.
