This post is just for entertainment. I laughed so hard after reading this Article Salary to S.G. The interesting thing is that this gave everyone the impression that people working in government sectors are given very low annual variable bonuses. In a way, I myself have been misled for decades regarding very low variable bonuses such as Annual Variable Component (“AVC”) announcements during mid-year and year-end.

    1. Don’t be fooled by 0 month to 1.5 month AVC.
This is the paragraph extracted on the annual remuneration package: “Civil servants in Singapore generally receive:
    -Fixed 13th month payment (AWS)
    -Mid Year AVC
    -Year end AVC

    -Sometimes, lump sum special payment”

The AVC portion fluctuates depending on economic conditions and government recommendations.

Year mid year avc year end avc Total AVC (Excluding 13th Month)
    2025 0.4 months tbd tbd
    2024 0.45 months 1.05 months 1.50 months
    2023 0.3 month 0.6 months 0.90 months
    2022 0.35 months 1.1 months 1.45 months
    2021 0.3 month 1 month 1.30 months
    2020 0 month 0 month 0 month
    2019 0.45 months 0.1 month 0.55 months
    2018 0.5 month 1 month 1.50 months
    2017 0.5
