Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may face new challenges as the royal family comes under scrutiny.
The institution is set to launch a phased investigation into their financial assets in the summer and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be in trouble over their independent life.
A source told the Mirror: “(The couple) no longer have a sovereign grant to support them, nor access to the many homes built at public expense, whether through rent-free arrangements or nominal rents.
“But what they have is an independent and completely self-funded life – one that no one else has to pay for and no one has to worry about funding, unlike the royal family. Is it right for them, working members of the royal family, to have their finances under scrutiny, absolutely. They should be treated the same as any other public institution or body,” the insider continued.
“Harry and Meghan always believed that repaying the money for Frogmore was the right thing to do. Many have suggested they were forced to do it, but the reality is that they had already built repayment into their plans when they decided to move away from the institution,” he told the Mirror.
