Slash considers the American band MC5 to have “timeless” music and attitude for its raw energy and rebellious attitude.
The British-American guitarist, famous for his work with Guns N’ Roses, said he was attracted to music that had energy and emotion, not just perfect playing.
Slash, 60, said his early musical tastes included many rock and punk bands, but MC5 stood out. He liked his fast, furious and aggressive style.
“MC5 was the first real American punk-rock band I identified with. MC5 is timeless because of that attitude, its volume, and its ferocity. (They) were the height of teenage rebellion. (I) liked the idea of pointing a finger at authority,” far magazine Rocker quoted.
Slash said that MC5 felt different from other bands at the time. Their music was more direct and fast, and it went against the softer psychedelic styles that were popular at the time.
He suggested that the MC5’s influence helped shape the development of both punk and heavy rock in the following decades.
Slash also said that even though his own guitar style is more sophisticated, he still respects the MC5’s raw sound and attitude.
He has also performed their music live, bringing his own interpretation to their work but maintaining its original energy in his own way.
