Barry Manilow says he is unsure whether his singing voice will fully return after recovering from lung cancer.
The 82-year-old singer made the revelation late last year that he had early-stage lung cancer and would need surgery, which also forced him to postpone a Las Vegas residency.
Although she was declared cancer-free in March, Manilow said her recovery has been more difficult than expected.
But I am saying good morning america“My voice, I don’t know if it’s coming back or not,” he said, adding, “I did my first sound check about a month ago, and I didn’t sound like me at all. I just couldn’t believe it was over.”
Manilow admitted that the situation was frustrating because he still wanted to perform. He also said that earlier he used to take his voice lightly but now he sees how important it is.
He said, “I’ve always taken my voice for granted. I don’t take it seriously. Now I do, because it doesn’t feel like it’s always there.”
Despite the uncertainty, the singer said he still hoped to return to the stage if his voice improved.
“I’m in good shape, I’m ready to go. I just hope my voice is there. If my voice is good, that would be great!”
Manilow is expected to resume touring in the UK later this month.
