“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old wineskins burst under the pressure, and the wine spilled out and the wineskins were ruined. New wine is put into new wineskins, so that both may be preserved.” -Matthew 9:17
Sometimes God brings us to a place where He takes the life away from us. Yes, that is correct. We don’t actually die – although it can certainly feel like it! God does this to lead us, to help us understand something about ourselves, or to point his finger at sin in our lives. Often it may be a combination of all of these.
When we feel uncomfortable in our walk with God, it may be a sign that God is trying to move us forward, out of mediocrity, out of the desert, out of slavery and/or out of Egypt. Often we don’t realize what God is trying to do until we move forward in it. Only then can we move beyond the discomfort to a place that may require more responsibility, more holiness, or more strength or stamina, but certainly more authority.
It is inconvenient to grow. There is a need to overcome this. Growing requires doing something even when we don’t feel like it. This may require confession of sin or starting from a place of humility. Whatever type of “God-squeeze” you are experiencing, know that it is a part of God’s plan to bring about His perfect will in your life. “…For my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9b)
