There’s always a time in the summer when certain shoe trends suddenly start feeling…overexposed. Not necessarily “out”, but no longer exciting enough to pack or create a full outfit for an upcoming adventure. This season, I’ve noticed that fashionistas have been quietly moving away from some of the trendy flats and sporty silhouettes that have dominated the past few years toward styles that feel more sophisticated, nostalgic, or a little expensive.
The replacements aren’t necessarily faster, they’re just smarter. Think satin slippers over the flats you wore repeatedly during your youth, sculptural wedges instead of clunky platforms, and sleek flip-flops that look intentionally minimal rather than just beachy. Going forward, I’m personally moving on from the summer shoe trend in 2026 and replacing it with the cute options fashionistas are already wearing.
I’m Over It: Chunky Velcro Sandals
I’m into: thick strap flip flops
Fashionistas are leaning toward sleek thick-strap flip-flops that feel minimalist, elevated, and surprisingly versatile. They have the same spontaneity factor as Velcro, but with a cleaner, more refined energy.
I’m over it: PVC mule
I’m into: cut off kitten heels
This is a unique style that takes your classic ankle boot and cuts it in half just in time for summer. They feel more wearable, less effort-hard, and deliver outfits that have the effortless “sophistication” that everyone wants right now.
I’m Over It: Crystal Mesh Shoes
I’m into: knitted and mesh flats
There are some updated options available in the range of woven and mesh flats on the market that are much more textured and substantial than what we have seen recently. Think woven leather details, slingback silhouettes and vintage-inspired jelly finishes that feel playful in a more intentional way.
I am on:
I’m into: sporty ballet flats
Recently there has been a rise in sporty ballet flats that reference athletic shoes without looking like actual Sneakers. They still have that off-duty energy, but they feel far more sophisticated and editor-approved.

Holi Ballet Flats
I’m Over It: Cork Wedges
I’m into: cool wedges
Wedges are definitely back — but in a much sleeker way. The new versions feel sculptural, low-profile, and intentionally chic rather than beach-resort clichĂ©. I’m especially seeing fashion people styling with minimalist outfits and relaxed tailoring instead of just holiday wear.
I’m Over It: House Slip On Shoes
I’m into: silk slippers
Traditional ballet flats will always be a staple but recently fashionistas have been adopting slipper-inspired satin shoes that have a touch of Venice but feel softer, richer and a little looser. They give the same feminine effect, but in a way that feels more fabulous and less predictable for 2026.
I’m over it: cage sandals
I’m involved in: interruptions
