I have always liked the idea of wellness. The routines, though, are another story. There is always a new habit to build, another morning ritual to perfect, and, somewhere along the way, it starts to feel like another item on the to-do list. That is what made The Wellness Co. Retreat at Karma Lakelands interesting to me. It brought together everything from Ayurveda and meditation to recovery therapies and diagnostics, all in one place. I was curious to see what that actually looked like over the course of two days.
The itinerary looked packed on paper. Meditation, recovery therapies, movement sessions and Ayurvedic treatments filled the day.Surprisingly, there was enough time between sessions to wander around the property, sit outdoors orsimplydo nothing for a while
A Slower Start Than Usual
My first experience at the retreat was an Art of Living session centred around guided breathing and meditation. It was a gentle way to arrive, helping me leave the long journey behind and ease into a slower pace
The next morning began with sound healing and meditation. Sitting still for an hour is usually not my strongest skill, butthere was something calmingabout starting the day without immediately reaching for my phone or thinking about what came next
The food was another pleasant surprise. Every meal was thoughtfully planned around my health goals and nutritional needs, yet nothing felt restrictive. It was fresh, flavourful and satisfying, proving that eating well does not have to come at the cost of enjoying your food
Then came the wellness therapies. The Far Infrared Sauna quickly became a favourite, offering a welcome pause before the more active sessions. EMS training was unlike anything I had tried before. Feeling your muscles contract through electrical stimulation takes a little getting used to, but once I settled into it, the experience was genuinely fascinating
A Different Kind of Reset
One thing I appreciated throughout my stay was how personalised the experience felt. Even something as simple as the IV therapy wasn’t a one-size-fits-all treatment. The formulation was customised based on my health assessment, making it feel like it was there to support my specific needs rather than being another wellness add-on
Stepping outside between sessions became just as much a part of the experience. A walk around Karma Lakelands, with its lake, birds and expansive green spaces, offered a welcome change from the hours I usually spend indoors. Sometimes, those quiet moments outdoors were as refreshing as the therapies themselves
The experience I kept thinking about afterwards, though, was the Abhyanga and Shirodhara treatment. There is something incredibly relaxing about simply lying still while warm herbal oils and slow, rhythmic movements do all the work
The retreat also encouraged small changes without making them feel like rules. I wasn’t leaving with a long list of habits to follow, but I did come away with a better sense of what slowing down can actually look like when you stop trying to optimise every minute of the day
