In All Your Ways, Acknowledge Him Binu Samuel

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:6, NKJV).
It was the first day of his sophomore year of college. My son was enrolled in Biology 1322, and the professor asked everyone to quickly introduce themselves by stating their name, where they were from, and a fact about themselves.
So that’s what he did.
“My name is Caleb, I’m from Dallas, and I love Jesus.”
After about a week, my son changed his major and no longer needed this class to graduate, so he dropped it from his schedule.
The next semester, my son was pleasantly surprised to receive an unexpected message from his biology professor:
“Hi, Caleb! I could hardly wait to get out of class today and share this story with you. Today during introductions, a young lady sat in the exact seat you sat in on the first day last semester, and she shared the same fact about herself as you did. She said, ‘I love Jesus!’ Shocked, I told her how you said the same thing from the same seat. The Lord is funny sometimes … It was a sweet moment for me.”
When my son shared this story with me, a wave of emotions swept over my heart. I felt as though I could hear God say, In all your ways, acknowledge Me.
It’s taken from a passage many of us are familiar with:
“Trust in the Lᴏʀᴅ with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him …” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV)
I thought back to that fall semester and the difficult season of uncertainty my son had been in. We can laugh about it now, but navigating the pressures of changing a major was hard on him and stressful for our family.
I love that even in that roller coaster season, my son still managed to acknowledge Jesus and make Him known.
I also love that his professor took the time to share this strange “coincidence” with him! Perhaps for her it was a reminder that God has a remnant of young people, strategically placed in classrooms like hers, who still love Jesus.
For me it was a reminder that even in our wanderings, God knows just where we are. As Psalm 139 says, God knows when (and where) we sit and when we rise. He is familiar with all our ways.
My son might not have known much about his future as he sat in class that day, but what he did know, he shared:
“… and I love Jesus.”
I am challenged to do the same.
In all my ways, I want to acknowledge Him and make Him known. When I’m in a valley, when things are going well, and when I haven’t a clue where I’m going … I pray I can still make Him known
Then we get to the next part of Proverbs 3:6: “And He shall direct your paths.” When we truly acknowledge Him, God can bring purpose to every step (or misstep) of our journey.
Dear Jesus, teach me how I can acknowledge You in all aspects of my life. May my life bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
