The arrival of King Charles and Queen Camilla in the United States almost loomed large!
It has been reported that Australian flags were accidentally displayed in Washington DC ahead of the royal visit. The error seen en route near the White House showed Australian flags flying with the American Stars and Stripes instead of the United Kingdom’s Union Jack.
However, the error was quickly identified and corrected by officials, who replaced the flags before the royal couple’s official arrival.
Furthermore, officials also confirmed that the fault was limited to one area and was resolved immediately.
ABC News reporter James Longman also posted a video about the mistake on Instagram, saying, “For about two hours, they flew the Australian flag with the Stars and Stripes. … I think they realized their mistake, and they’ve now replaced them with the Union Jack.”
Despite the mistake, the state visit remains a significant diplomatic moment. The four-day visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla marks the 250th anniversary of US independence and is seen as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the US and Britain.
Now, Buckingham Palace has revealed that the King and Queen have arrived in Washington, beginning their state visit.
