Today is proving to be a busy day for Valve News. The creator of the Steam Marketplace has now confirmed the price and release date of the Steam Controller. Although we didn’t get any information about the highly anticipated Steam Machine, the company did offer an update on another highly anticipated product that it is currently working on.
Steam Deck developer, Pierre-Loup Griffais explains ign That Valve is “working hard” on the next Steam deck. When asked about the next handheld PC, Griffeys said:
We’ve been working hard on it, and obviously every step of the way, if you look at our hardware projects over the years, you can draw a straight line from the original Steam Controller and Steam Machine, to the Steam Deck, to everything we’re announcing and shipping this year. And we expect Steam Deck 2 to be much the same, where there will be a lot of learning from what we’re doing here.
In 2023, Gryfas confirmed that there will be Steam Deck 2. However, he also said that the day of the next generation Steam Deck may not come for a few years. At the time, the developer suggested that Valve would be interested in releasing Steam Deck 2 when there was a significant enough improvement in performance that would not come at the expense of battery life.
Unfortunately, it looks like Griffis is still unwilling to give a specific date for when the next-gen Steam Deck might arrive. However, it appears that the company intends to release a new handheld PC. Hopefully, it won’t take long for Valve to find the right balance of battery life and high performance.
