The Galaxy Z Fold 8 joins its brother for a wide selfie camera upgrade

Samsung’s next-generation foldable is rumored to launch in late July. As we get closer to the launch, the leaks are gaining momentum. Earlier today, we saw dummy units suggesting that a highly anticipated feature could be added to the Galaxy Z Fold (including the “Wide” Fold) and Flip 8. Additionally, we are seeing fresh leaks about the Fold 8’s selfie cameras.

Now, the leaker has shared more details on it weiboExplaining that the upgrade is not limited to the book-style Galaxy Z Fold 8. Despite the difference in dimensions, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will also have a smaller 2.5mm selfie camera cutout.

The leaker also says that both the regular Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide will have the same camera. If this is true, the wide foldable could also use the same 10MP selfie camera previously rumored for the Fold 8. The Fold 7 also has a 10MP unit, and we’re unsure whether there will be any improvements in other aspects of the camera.

The leaker also suggests that Samsung is moving towards an under-display selfie camera for future generations of foldables. Until the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung offered a selfie camera under the screen, but reverted to a standard unit with the Fold 7 last year. While the camera will hide beneath the display when not in use, the layer of pixels on top will result in blurry image quality when in use.

It’s safe to assume that Samsung won’t go back to under-display sensors just for bragging rights. Instead, we can hope to master the technology before making the switch completely.

While both the standard and wide editions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 are expected to have sleeker selfie cameras, no such improvements are rumored for the Flip 8’s cameras yet.
