In late 2025, Valve announced that it is working on its upcoming dedicated gaming hardware ecosystem centered around the Steam Machine, a home console designed to run PC games along with some serious horsepower. While we’re still waiting for the console to launch, it looks like we’ll be getting steam controller coming soon.
according to valveThe Steam Controller will retail for $99 (£85 in the UK), and will be available for purchase starting on May 4 at 10:00am PT. This isn’t Valve’s first controller by any means, though it does come with some hardware improvements, like magnetic thumbsticks with TMR sensors, HD haptics, capacitive touch input, assignable grip buttons, and gyro support.
As for battery life, the device can charge via USB-C, and last up to 35 hours with each charge, though real-world usage will certainly vary. The Steam Controller will be able to work with Windows PC, Steam Deck as well as other Steam hardware. Although it will go on sale before the Steam Machine, Valve will definitely sell it bundled with the console when it hits the market.
