Buckingham Palace released a fresh update on King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit to America as they offered a glimpse of their first engagement in Washington, DC.
Sharing details of Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s welcome to the White House, the Palace shared a photo of the couple showing off beehives in the White House gardens.
The caption noted that the monarch and queen were shown the historic White House beehives, first installed in 2009 and now expanded with hand-built hives introduced in 2026, which house approximately 70,000 bees during the summer.
It reads, “After being welcomed to Washington DC by the President and First Lady of the United States, the King and Queen were shown the beehives in the White House gardens.”
He added, “The White House bee hives were first installed in 2009, serving as a permanent feature of the grounds across multiple administrations and producing honey for the White House.
“In 2026, First Lady Melania Trump expanded the existing White House honey program to include a handmade hive the size of the White House. During the summer, the hive is home to approximately 70,000 bees.”
The post comes as the king and queen begin a four-day state visit to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
