Prince Harry quietly slipped into the palace for a ‘private meeting’ with the monarch during a one-day stay in Manhattan ahead of King Charles’s state visit to the United States, a royal expert has claimed.
Palace aides were open to the idea of a private meeting, however, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent visit to Australia changed everything.
Insiders told royal expert Rob Shooter, “Team Sussex tried to quietly arrange a private New York meeting with the king during the couple’s one-day stay in Manhattan – carefully distanced from Washington, Trump and the political aspects of the US trip.
“For a brief moment, palace aides were open to the idea.”
However, close insiders told the expert that “everything changed” with Harry and Meghan’s latest semi-royal tour of Australia.
“That trip ended it all. The palace saw the optics and quickly backed down,” the source says.
Insiders say Harry is still “trying hard to FaceTime” with his dad.
“But palace aides remain deeply concerned about what that meeting will actually achieve,” the source says.
King Charles arrived in Washington on Monday for a crucial state visit aimed at salvaging deteriorating relations with Donald Trump.
Tensions over the Iran war have hit the so-called “special relationship” ahead of a visit by the British monarch’s ancestors to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence.
