In match number 41, Mumbai Indians (MI) host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The game was thrilling with another excellent batting performance from both sides. In the end, Pat Cummins’ team chased down the mammoth score of 244 runs with 8 balls to spare and continued their winning streak with 5 consecutive wins.
MI won the toss and decided to bat first, it was a must win match for them. Hardik Pandya’s team made four changes in the game; Ryan Rickelton, Trent Boult, Robin Minnes and Will Jacks came in and Quinton de Kock, Mitchell Santner, Sherfane Rutherford and Krish Bhagat were out of the team.
Ryan Rickelton’s century went in vain
Batting first, the opening pair of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacques started brightly and looked dangerous, scoring 78 runs in the power play. Jack, who was looking in good form, missed his half-century and was out on the score of 46. However, Rickelton continued his amazing performance in the match.
The Proteas batsman completed his half-century in just 23 balls. He was hitting at pace and completed his maiden IPL century in 44 balls, which was also the fastest century by an MI batsman, surpassing the joint record of Sanath Jayasuriya and Tilak Verma. Suryakumar Yadav once again failed and even Naman Dheer could not trouble the bowlers.
Pandya scored 31 off 15 balls and provided good support to the southpaw, and then Tilak’s short knock of 7 runs off 5 balls and Ryan Rickelton’s unbeaten innings helped MI cross the 220-run mark as they finished with 243/5 in 20 overs.
Pat Cummins’ team easily chased 244 runs
Pat Cummins’ team’s opening pair Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head became aggressive from the very first over and scored 92 runs in the power play. Both looked amazing; The former missed out on a half-century as he was out for 45 and Head continued his havoc with 76 off 30 balls.
Due to the fall of some wickets in the middle overs, it seemed that Mumbai would make a comeback in the match, but then in-form Heinrich Klaasen came, who was performing brilliantly in the middle overs and finished the match by playing an unbeaten inning of 65 runs. Salil Arora scored 30 runs in 10 balls.

Pat Cummins said after the win, “I always thought it was tough to start, but given our batting lineup and obviously a very good pitch, certainly thought it was in our sights. A few things had to go right, but I thought it was achievable. (That opening combo you’ve got, are they completely out of fear for their lives?).”
“Hopefully. You know, you see when the pitches are good, the way they play, they have a lot of different shots. So I mean, I’m glad I’m not bowling to them. They look quite scary. (What do you think with all these youngsters coming in?)
Pat Cummins is amazed by Salil Arora’s batting, “It’s extremely impressive. Salil (Arora) hasn’t really got too many chances so far this season, but in the preseason he has really impressed. He’s got a fearless attitude.”
“So credit to the coaching staff for instilling that spirit in these youngsters. I don’t think they realize how good they are, 5 years ago it used to be very difficult to chase 200. Now even 240 is difficult to chase. Ishan is one of the main reasons why we are winning games. We will hang in there,” Pat Cummins concluded.
