Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Shivam Mavi has been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to a back injury, the franchise said on Friday.
Right-arm medium pacer Mavi has not yet played any match for the franchise in IPL 2026. In fact, he has not played any IPL match since 2022. Mavi has a history of struggling with injuries, which have hampered his career.
After going unsold in IPL 2025, Mavi was picked up by SRH in 2026 at his base price of Rs 75 lakh.
RS Ambareesh replaced Shivam Mavi
Ambareesh is a bowling all-rounder from Tamil Nadu who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. Ambareesh was also a part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year.
In that tournament, he took 11 wickets in 7 matches and was India’s joint-highest wicket-taker. He will join SRH at a base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Earlier this year, Ambareesh made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy.
Shivam Mavi’s career
Like his replacement, Mavi is also an Under-19 World Cup winner. Mavi was part of the Prithvi Shaw-led Indian team that won the tournament in 2018.
His ability to generate pace even at such a young age impressed Kolkata Knight Riders so much that they spent Rs 3 crore on him that year.
Between 2018 and 2022, Mavi took 30 wickets in 32 matches for the three-time champions. In early 2023, he got a chance to make his T20I debut for India.
On debut, Shivam Mavi took four wickets against Sri Lanka and became the third Indian player to take four wickets on T20I debut. However, he took only three wickets in his next five matches and has not played for India since.

In 2023, Gujarat Titans signed him for Rs 6 crore, but did not play him in any match. The next year, he joined Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 6.4 crore but was sidelined due to a rib injury.
SRH’s next match
Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Kolkata Knight Riders on May 3 in Hyderabad. SRH has already defeated KKR once in this year’s tournament.
Their bowling attack has been strengthened by the return of regular captain Pat Cummins, as a result of which they are currently on a five-match winning streak.
SRH is currently placed third in the points table while KKR is placed eighth. The 2016 champions will certainly be in favor of extending their winning streak to six consecutive matches.
