“The angel of the Lord gave this command to Joshua: This is what the Lord Almighty says: If you will walk in my ways, and keep my commandments, then you will rule over my house, and take possession of my courts, and I will give you a place among the people standing here.'” (Zech 3:6-7)
On September 17, 1796, George Washington said, “It is impossible to rule the world rightly without God and the Bible.” In his prayer at Valley Forge, he implored God: “Almighty and eternal Lord God, great Creator of heaven and earth, and God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; look down from heaven with mercy and lovingkindness upon my servant, who humbly bows before you.”
On another occasion he said, “It should be our highest glory to add, to the characteristic character of a patriot, the more characteristic character of a Christian.”
America was founded as a Christian nation. The Founding Fathers had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. Today, there is a movement to remove God from our history and our foundations. When we do this, America will not do well. And when America stops being good, we will no longer be great.
England also had a great Christian statesman in his early years. A man named William Wilberforce rose to fame at an early age. At the age of 28 he came to faith in Christ and almost decided to leave politics to go into “ministry”. John Newton, author of Amazing Grace, convinced him to remain in politics. He would be credited with 69 world-changing initiatives, the most significant of which was the abolition of slavery after 50 years of work.
Pray that this generation can accept and embrace their Godly heritage and that God will raise up other leaders who will lead from a Godly foundation.
