copy me
“Therefore I urge you to follow me.” -1 Corinthians 4:16
Do you copy others?
As we live our lives, we may not think that we are imitating anyone; We may think that we are marching to the beat of our own drum. But the truth is that we are copying someone.
From advertisements to TV, from school to music, to our parents and relatives, everyone is telling us something or the other. They tell us how to live, what kind of clothes to buy, what kind of food to eat; What to believe? The millions of song covers on YouTube will tell us that we love to imitate people we admire. But, are we imitating the right people that will bring us closer to God’s plans for our lives?
Paul advises the Corinthians to “imitate him.” Why? Because he knew how to live as a Christian, he was their example. In the following verse he tells them that he is sending his “spiritual son” Timothy as a reminder and example of how to live life as an authentic follower of Jesus.
It is said that we become what we hang around. Jim Rohn, an entrepreneur and motivational speaker, said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Are we consciously thinking about who we are copying and hanging around?
To become all that God wants us to be, we need to find people to emulate, who have the fruit in our lives that we desire. A fruit is a result. Turning to someone who has been married 5 times for marriage advice is probably not the best idea. Conversely, attending training from someone who has their own successful business is great when you want your own business! We need to be intentional.
What do you want to achieve in life? Do you have any idea what talent you have or what passion you have? Find people who have what you want and do what they do. The fastest way to find out how to get to where you want to be is to learn from people who have both the experience and the results.
