After another disappointing defeat in the ongoing IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals (DC) are now under immense pressure and the team’s playoff hopes are slowly fading away. But amidst all the criticism and selection drama, one player who has surprised everyone with his calm response is South African star David Miller.

The experienced left-hander was left out of Delhi Capitals’ playing eleven during the crucial encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The decision surprised everyone as Miller is known as one of the best finishers and pressure players in T20.

He was overlooked for Karun Nair but was placed in the impact selection options. But later, after the batting lineup struggled badly on a difficult pitch against Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals surprised everyone by sending in Sameer Rizvi as an impact player.

The decision was heavily criticized as many believed that Miller’s experience could have helped Delhi Capitals on a difficult batting pitch as CSK won the match by eight wickets.

David Miller breaks silence after being benched by DC vs CSK in IPL 2026

But despite all the noise surrounding the decision, David Miller has shown no disappointment ahead of DC’s IPL 2026 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi on May 8. The South African batsman said he understands that IPL team combinations can sometimes force the management to take tough decisions, especially because only four overseas players are allowed in the playing XI.

“I think not being able to play is obviously disappointing as a player. You always want to play every game, but the IPL is like that, the structure of it is with only four overseas players; the combination becomes really important for the team,” Miller was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He said, “So, I’ve been around; it’s not my first IPL, so I understand the makeup, and giving really positive feedback to the rest of the team, always being positive, and giving whatever I can for the team is really important for me. And then just waiting for my opportunity to come again, whether it comes for the rest of the season or not. I just want to be ready and prepare really well; that’s what we players like to do.”

Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2026 playoff dream in danger!

At the moment, Delhi Capitals are in serious trouble in the points table with 8 points from 10 matches so far and their playoff hopes are in danger. Now, the situation is that DC will have to win all their four remaining matches to keep their IPL 2026 playoff dream alive.

The disappointing thing for Delhi Capitals is that they had many chances at the beginning of the season to put themselves in a stronger position. Had a painful defeat against Gujarat Titans, followed by a big shock against Punjab Kings; Several dropped catches and bad moments hurt DC badly.

David Miller reveals what’s destroying DC’s campaign

Miller said that the team has played really good cricket in many matches but has repeatedly failed in small but important moments. He said that IPL has now become so competitive that even one bad over or one missed catch can completely change the outcome of the match and the same has happened with Delhi Capitals this season.

“It’s four out of four. We really need to win now. We have to win four out of four to have a chance of qualifying, so it becomes really important. Look, it’s not easy. Obviously, we don’t go there to lose a game. So, we’ve definitely debriefed and talked about a few things. And that’s just for me with the batsmen; I don’t think we’re playing bad cricket at all,” he said.
