Acts 4:32 – 5:16
Act 4
believers shared everything
32 The entire group of believers was one in heart and spirit. No one claimed any of his property as his own, but they held everything in common. 33 The apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (1) With great power, and abundant grace upon them all. 34 There was no needy person among them. Because from time to time people who owned land or houses used to sell them, and brought back the money received from what was sold. 35 And laid it at the feet of the apostles. It was distributed according to whoever needed it.
36 Joseph, who was called Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated “son of encouragement”), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 Sold one of his farms. He brought money and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
Ananias and Sapphira
Act 5
1 Now a man named Ananias, along with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s knowledge, he kept a portion of the income for himself. Then he brought a part of it and placed it at the apostles’ feet.
3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan put it into your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep some of the produce of the land for yourself? 4 Wasn’t it yours before you sold it? And after selling it, didn’t you have the money? How can you make such a plan in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.”
5 When Ananias heard these things, he fell down and died. Whoever heard about it became very afraid. 6 The youth got up and wrapped his body. Then they took him outside and buried him.
7 About three hours later, his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked him, “Tell me, is that all you got in return for the land?”
“Yes,” he said, “that was the price.”
9 Then Peter said to her, “How can both of you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! Those who buried your husband are standing at the door, and they will take you out too!”
10 She immediately fell at his feet and died. When the youth came inside they found him dead. Then they took her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear fell on the entire church and everyone who heard about these things.
many miracles
12 Many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. With one mind, they all met in the Colonnade of Solomon. 13 No one else dared to associate with him, but people respected him greatly. 14 More and more believers in the Lord joined their group, including a large number of both men and women. 15 As a result, people were taking the sick into the streets and laying them on cots and mats so that when Peter came, at least his shadow could fall on some of them. 16 Crowds also gathered from the cities around Jerusalem, (2) Brought the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
