Las Vegas police said they arrested a teenage girl on Saturday, May 30, after receiving a report that she allegedly stabbed horses at a racing event.
As reported, the girl stabbed three horses at a barrel racing competition venue this weekend.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Saturday that police received a report of an injured horse in the barn of the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center just after 2 a.m. on May 30.
according to review-journal, Detectives found the girl at a nearby hotel, police said.
He was booked on 12 separate animal cruelty counts and three felony counts of malicious destruction of personal property.
“Patrol officers arrived and discovered that three horses had been intentionally injured with a sharp object,” a news release from the Las Vegas Police Department said.
A statement from the National Barrel Horse Association says multiple horses were abused by a competitor at the 2026 NBHA Professional Choice Vegas Super Show, which runs through Sunday, May 31.
The association said in a news release that the suspect “has been removed and is in the care of authorities, and is not in any danger.”
Police said the teen “had access to the barn, and investigators believe she may have used a knife to cause multiple injuries to the horses.”
Specifically, police stated that the horses’ injuries were not life-threatening, but were severe enough to possibly prevent the horses from competing.
