Hip-hop legend Afrika Bambaataa has passed away. However, his legacy has been marred by his many controversies.
Chief among them was his shocking accusation of child sexual abuse, as well as the explosive sex trafficking allegation.
bombing allegation
In 2016, a major controversy erupted when an activist named Ronald Savage from the Bronx filed charges against the hip-hop legend for sexually abusing her when she was 15 in 1980.
This has caused a domino effect, with the allegations made prompting several men to come forward with their stories, alleging that they have suffered similar behavior from Bambaataa.
In response, Universal Zulu Nation, a hip-hop group he founded in 1973, forced him out. Additionally, he also issued a public apology to the survivors, revealing that he had some insider knowledge of Bambaataa’s alleged abuse, but that some of them maintained silence.
explosive court case
Five years later, a lawsuit was filed against the Bronx rapper, accusing him of trafficking as well as abuse when he was only 12 years old.
The unnamed plaintiff, who used the alias John Doe, won the case after a New York judge entered a default judgment because Bambaataa did not appear or respond.
On April 9, Bambaataa died after battling cancer, despite denying the allegations against him. He was 68 years old.
