The San Francisco Giants approached the MLB trade deadline with, the club claimed, an effort to plan for the future
There were three pitchers on the current SF Giants roster who chose to wear a Gay Pride cap during the team’s Pride Night on June 12, also choosing to scribble a Bible verse to deface the Pride rainbow
Starting pitcher Landen Roupp. as well as relief pitchers Ryan Walker and J.T. Brubaker, all wrote a Bible verse on their Pride cap that was intended to give a giant middle finger to the LGBTQ fans of the Giants, as well as other gay, lesbian and trans people
That Bible verse — taken from the Book of Genesis, written over 3,000 years ago — says that the rainbow belongs to their Christian God
The Giants said clearly that these three pitchers — the men who made a very publicly anti-gay demonstration on Pride Night — are part of the team’s future in San Francisco
Make no mistake: These three pitchers for the San Francisco Giants were telling gay people like me, with their Bible verse scribbled on their game caps, that the LGBTQ community doesn’t get to use the rainbow as their symbol
The rainbow is, according to these three men, a symbol of their god. Their church makes it clear that gay people are sinners at their core, and they reject the LGBTQ community
Of course, if the LGBTQ community chose an oak tree or a dolphin or the planet Mars as its unifying symbol, these same Christians would claim their God owns that symbol and we don’t
They’ll come after the color pink soon, I’m sure, as there has to be a Deuteronomy quote from Moses about how God owns that color

These three anti-gay pitchers have become superstars in the eyes of anti-LGBTQ pundits. Though Giants ticket sales have dropped since Pride Night, sending a clear signal the city doesn’t approve
People like Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens and Clay Travis all want to destroy the LGBTQ community. The rainbow is just the latest target of critique for these people
How will San Francisco Giants fans respond to the embrace of these deeply anti-gay pitchers? The team is buried by its record in the National League, over a dozen games below .500 and having won just four of their last 10 games
Buster Posey and company must be freaking out to keep these pitchers, whom the publicly facing SF Giants fanbase has clearly asked to send packing
