The Indian Premier League (IPL) El Clasico ended in blue with an entertaining contest between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the team’s home ground Wankhede Stadium.
The bowlers of both the teams showed some brilliant spells in their respective innings. When their bowlers were taking wickets one after the other, Mumbai seemed to be in the front seat.
Sanju Samson was the difference maker between MI and CSK
Chennai Super Kings’ star opener Sanju Samson stood up again at a time when the team was in deep trouble. Samson scored his second century in the current season with the Yellow Brigade. While wickets were falling at regular intervals, Samson was hitting the ball with ease. He remained unbeaten on 101 runs in 54 balls with the help of 16 fours including 10 fours and six sixes and CSK scored 207 runs for 6 wickets.
After Samson, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was the second-highest run-scorer for the team, scoring 22 off 14, which showed how Samson carried the team on his reliable shoulders throughout the innings.
It was not easy to bat on the wicket
Since the 2026 T20 World Cup, the iconic Wankhede Stadium has witnessed many high-scoring matches. Cricket fans were expecting to see another fierce battle between the batsmen of both the teams tonight.
For Mumbai Indians, Allah Ghazanfar and Ashwini Kumar scored two goals each. Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner got one wicket each.
As soon as the second innings started, Mumbai Indians attacked strongly. Quinton de Kock, Danish Malewar and Naman Dheer lost their wickets inside the power play. In the third over of the second innings itself, Mumbai Indians lost three batsmen for just 11 runs on the scoreboard.
CSK won the match against Mumbai by 103 runs
Mumbai Indians never looked confident of recovering from the initial shock. The middle-order batsmen, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma tried to hold on against the Chennai Super Kings bowlers for some time, but could not last long. As soon as Verma and Yadav were removed from the crease, the rest of MI’s batting line-up collapsed like a house of cards.
CSK, who came to bat first after losing the toss, scored 207 runs in 20 overs, which proved enough to defeat Mumbai Indians captained by Hardik Pandya.
The home team could score only 104 runs in 19 overs before the last batsman was out. It is noteworthy that before the match, CSK’s emerging talent Mukesh Chaudhary had lost his mother yesterday, and he still played the match and bowled well to score 31/1.
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said after the match, “He (Mukesh Chaudhary) is very tough, I will dedicate this win to him. All glory to him. Everyone got involved and wanted to stand there for him. It feels good (to win). My gut feeling wanted me to bat first. Sanju and I said it was not going well.”
He said, “Everyone performed very well. Even the 20s helped. Sanju played a brilliant innings and took us home. We are doing well; it is just starting to click. We are trying to cover all the bases. From Mukesh to Quinton, who set the pace. They started really well. It is a privilege to have Akil and Noor. Everyone is settling. Everyone is calm. We would have started from zero.
