bug lights
“There is a consuming fire for the Lord your God…” – Deuteronomy 4:24
We were in a puja ceremony, singing and worshiping God. The Spirit was very alive in the meeting, and I could feel the “fire” of God all around me. I felt overwhelmed by the power and presence of God.
Then this thought came to my mind: The circumstances of life and the negative things that happen don’t really matter as long as we are consumed by the fire of God. If we are really burning on fire all the time, then every negative thing is burned by Him!
This may sound silly, but I envisioned myself as a “bug light” that, when plugged into the fire of God, consumed every negative circumstance, thought or attitude before it could even get close to my heart.
That’s what “burning on fire for God” is all about.
We are made in the image of God. As we become more and more like Him, truly like Him, we begin to display His attributes: His mercy, His love, His grace, His truth, and most of all, His life. Life in them is about survival – about really being alive. And while we are alive, we burn for it.
As we sang the words, “You set our hearts on fire…we are consumed by you,” the analogy of being “bug light” resonated – and nothing else matters because the fire of God is within us.
Are you so excited by God’s presence that any negative thoughts, attitudes or behaviors are “chanted out” among you? May we continue to burn for Jesus, so that our main focus may be on Him and Him alone.
