Mel Schilling, of Married at First Sight fame, has died after battling colon cancer, according to his family. She was 54 years old.
In a statement, the late love guru’s Instagram page described his final moments after being first diagnosed with cancer in 2023, writing, “In his final moments, when I thought cancer had taken away his ability to speak, he called me close and whispered a message to Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life.”
“It took all his remaining strength, and that gesture perfectly expressed our wee Melsie. Yet, his only thought was for Maddie and me”.
“This is a woman who, at the age of 42, became a new mother and a TV star – and managed to do both,” the statement said.
The message also highlights her courage during chemotherapy, reading, “This is a woman who, during two years of chemotherapy, when she could barely lift her head from the pillow, never complained and never stopped showing courage, grace, compassion and empathy and never missed a single day of filming.”
The statement concluded, “For most of you, she was Mel Schilling – the matriarch of MAFS and the queen of reality TV. To Maddie and me, she was our little Melsie: an incredible mother, role model, and soulmate.”
Mel Schilling’s explosive moments in MAFS
In MFS, Schilling is known for decrying the gaslighting behavior of any contestant.
His outspoken style and outspoken remarks often generate mixed reactions from the audience. One of such explosive moments was her face-off with Harrison Boone, a controversial groom on the show.
The late reality show host described this as Boone’s toxic behavior in the relationship. She questioned his honesty and held him responsible for his actions.
“I really feel like we’re at the circus tonight,” she said at the time. “And we’ve asked Harrison to perform circus tricks.
“But I see you,” Schilling said sharply. “I’m always watching.”
