Donald Trump has revealed he is “pausing the energy plant destruction period” in Iran for 10 days while insisting talks on a deal to end the war are “going very well”.
Writing on Truth Social, the US president said: “In accordance with the request of the Iranian government, please allow this statement to reflect that I am suspending the energy plant destruction for 10 days until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Negotiations are ongoing and, despite inaccurate statements by the fake news media and others, they are going very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Donald J. Trump”
Mr Witkoff said: “It has been channeled through the Pakistani government.”
The head of the United Nations agency responsible for monitoring civilian nuclear activity has condemned recent military attacks near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Rafael Grossi, who leads the International Atomic Energy Agency, warned that such attacks could result in “a major radiological disaster affecting a large area of Iran and beyond.”
According to the IAEA, Grossi reiterated his call for maximum restraint, stressing once again his “deep concern” over the situation and the potential risks involved.
The latest incident was reported last Tuesday near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, following a previous incident confirmed by the agency on March 17. However, none of the attacks have been reported to cause damage to the facility.
